CLARKSVILLE, Ind. — The Switzerland County Pacers put together a furious second-half comeback Friday night, but a slow start and costly mistakes proved too much to overcome as the Pacers fell to Clarksville, 30-27, on the road. The Pacers trailed 20-6 at halftime before battling their way back into the game. Switzerland County scored 14 points in the third quarter to cut the Clarksville lead to 27-20, then pulled within three points in the fourth quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Aiden Mosley to Peyton Stewart. The Pacers' comeback ultimately came up just short. Switzerland County actually outgained Clarksville 384-327 on the night, including a 212-163 advantage in rushing yards and a 172-164 edge through the air. The Pacers ran 58 offensive plays compared with 75 for Clarksville and finished with 13 first downs. The Pacers were led offensively by Brackston Sullivan, who had a remarkable night on the ground, carrying the ball just nine times for 174 yards, including a 76-yard run. Aiden Mosley completed 8 of 19 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns, while Masin Stroud continued his strong start to the season with five receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown. Stroud provided the Pacers' first points of the evening, hauling in a 63-yard touchdown pass from Mosley in the opening quarter. After Clarksville answered with a touchdown, the Pacers entered the second quarter trailing just 6-6 before the Generals scored twice to take a 20-6 halftime advantage. Switzerland County came out of halftime with renewed energy. Grayson Levell gave the Pacers a spark when he recovered a Clarksville fumble for a touchdown, with Aiden Greene adding the two-point conversion to make it 27-14. Greene then scored on a 1-yard run later in the quarter to pull the Pacers within seven. Clarksville answered with a fourth-quarter field goal to extend its lead to 30-20, but Switzerland County refused to go away. Mosley connected with Stewart for a 20-yard touchdown, bringing the Pacers within 30-27 and setting up a tense finish. Turnovers were a major factor in the contest, with both teams committing four turnovers, all coming on lost fumbles. Switzerland County also was penalized 11 times for 76 yards, compared with just three penalties for 15 yards by Clarksville. Defensively, Brady Jones led the Pacers with seven tackles and an assist. Stroud added six tackles, while Greene finished with five tackles, three assists and a tackle for loss. Masen Kilborn recorded five tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss. Levell finished with four tackles, a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Coach Ryan Jesop said the Pacers' inability to get off to a good start and costly mistakes from a young team ultimately proved to be the difference. “We just couldn't overcome the slow start tonight. We dug ourselves a hole in the first half, and then the inexperience bug that has been biting us all season showed up again with some costly mistakes. The frustrating part is that we had plenty of opportunities, and our kids fought their tails off to give us a chance to win the game. We outgained them, we battled back from being down 20-6 at halftime, and we had the ball late with a chance to make something happen. But you can't turn the ball over four times and have the penalties we had and expect to beat a good football team. Our young guys are learning some hard lessons right now, and hopefully these experiences will help us grow up quickly. I'm proud of the way they fought, but we've got to get better at taking care of the football and making the plays we're capable of making when those opportunities come.” Despite the loss, the Pacers' offensive production and second-half comeback demonstrated their ability to compete. Switzerland County finished with 384 yards of total offense and scored 21 second-half points after being held to just six in the opening two quarters. The Pacers will look to turn the lessons from Friday night's narrow defeat into improvement as they continue their season at home vs. #4 ranked Milan Indians.
